Tell Me the Story of Jesus

Frances J. Crosby, John R. Sweney, 1880

Tell me the story of Jesus,

Write on my heart every word;

Tell me the story most precious,

Sweetest that ever was heard.

Psalms 119:11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Tell how the angels in chorus,

Sang as they welcomed His birth,

“Glory to God in the highest!

Peace and good tidings to earth.”

Luke 2:1-20

Fasting alone in the desert,

Tell of the days that are past,

How for our sins He was tempted,

Yet was triumphant at last.

Luke 4:1-13

Tell of the years of His labor,

Tell of the sorrow He bore;

Mark 14:32-36

He was despised and afflicted,

Homeless, rejected and poor.

Matthew 8:20 And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."

Acts 4:11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.

2Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Tell of the cross where they nailed Him,

Writhing in anguish and pain;

Matthew 27:45-50

Tell of the grave where they laid Him,

Matthew 27:57-61

Tell how He liveth again.

1Corinthians 15:3-8

Love in that story so tender,

Clearer than ever I see;

John 3:14-17

Stay, let me weep while you whisper,

“Love paid the ransom for me.”

Romans 5:7-8 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person--though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die--but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

1Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

Tell me the story of Jesus,

Write on my heart every word;

Tell me the story most precious,

Sweetest that ever was heard.

John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

1John 2:14 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

1John 2:24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.

Do you believe the Story of Jesus?

Will you obey the message Jesus delivered to us through His apostles?

Romans 10:9-10 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Acts 2:37-38 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Does His word abide within you to keep you from sin?

1John 3:7-9 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.

If you have let the world back into your heart it’s time to purify it again.

James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Confess your sins to God so that He may cleanse you of wickedness

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
