The following is the report I sent to those who support our efforts in the Northwest.

Dear Brethren,

Thank you so much for the generous support you provide each month which helps allow me to work with churches that cannot afford to have a gospel meeting or that may not have a preacher working with them.

The meeting in Medicine Hat, CA was well attended by the members who were able to attend.  Some could not attend due to work schedules and others due to health issues.  We averaged 9 with a high of 16 for Sunday morning worship in attendance during the meeting.  Since we were there last year they have had a man and his wife with two children come from the liberal church, having seen the errors being practiced there.  This has been a good “shot in the arm” for this small church and hopefully will result in more growth.  We only had a few visitors from the community.

From Medicine Hat we traveled Saturday morning to Lethbridge and began a meeting there Sunday morning.  Lethbridge is a little larger than the church in Medicine Hat, but is still a small group.  We averaged 11 in attendance with 12 being the highest.  Some members could not attend at times due to work schedules.  They have declined in attendance since we were there last year primarily due to people moving to other places.  However they have a dedicated core group that keeps the work going.  Mike Gray, a native Canadian serves as the evangelist for this church.

The meeting in Lethbridge just went through Thursday so we would have time to get to Ranchester, WY to begin a meeting there the next Sunday.  We averaged 7 each night with a high of 10 on Monday night.  We had visitors from the small church in Sheridan as well as one lady from the liberal church in Sheridan.  This small church consists of a man and his wife and their daughter and another man, just four people most of the time.  There is another couple that attended some while we were there in the spring but has only attended a few times since and did not attend at all during the meeting.  They are both members of the church but have been unfaithful for a long time.  I thought we might be able to talk with them some while we were there in the meeting, but were unable to do so.  This family has been working very hard to find individuals to study with and have had some studies recently, but no conversions yet.

Now we are in Mississippi ready to begin a meeting with the church in Laws Hill.  This is a small rural church about 18 miles West of Holly Springs, MS.  Bobby Holmes has preached a meeting for this church about this time of year for the past 25 years, but due to his age and failing health he can no longer make the trip from Texas.  So, I agreed last year to hold their Fall meeting for them this year.  Following this meeting we will be back home in Alabama.  We have been home only once, for a few days in June, since leaving March 6th.  When I complete this meeting I will have preached 116 sermons this year in ten states and Canada for nineteen different churches and three of these I worked with two different times during the year.  Some of these churches I just preached a week meeting and others I worked with on an extended basis up to a month.

We had quite a bit of mechanical problems with our RV this year, but due to the generosity of brethren and churches we have been able to meet all expenses and have not had to use all of what little savings we had.  If anyone would like to see an account of all our travel expenses, I will be happy to supply them.

I again express my appreciation for your financial support, but especially your prayers.  I am including a financial statement for support received thus far in 2012 so you can know how much support we have received and where it is from.  I have also included a corrected copy of the financial statement I sent last month.

August report

Following is the August report I sent to those who support us in the work we are doing in the Pacific Northwest;

Dear Brethren,

Thank you so much for the generous support you provide each month which helps allow me to work with churches that cannot afford to have a gospel meeting or that may not have a preacher working with them.  As the result of some generous help from some individuals and more support than I was expecting from the church in Sunnyside, WA for my work with them during the month of July, along with support I anticipate from some of the churches I will be working with, I believe I will have sufficient support to finish this year.  We may not have enough to put back all that we have had to use out of our savings, but hopefully, we will be able to put some of it back.

Our work with the church in Sunnyside, WA during July went well.  It was an enjoyable month.  Our lessons were well received and copies of my outlines as well as audio of some of the lessons were requested.  The church there only meets once on Sunday afternoon.  Bible study is from 2 to 2:45 pm and then worship begins at 3 pm and they told me to not worry about the length of sermons, to just preach till I couldn’t.  I jokingly told them they didn’t know what they were saying.  Seriously, this church does not get in a hurry to get through with the worship period, it sometimes will last almost two hours and the sermons are usually not over an hour long.  This church will spend about as much time in Bible study and worship as many churches do that meet two times on Sunday.  Their attendance averaged 22 Sunday worship and 18 Wednesday evening Bible study.  They have asked us to consider coming and working with them full-time, but no decision has been made at present.

I have not heard from the preacher at the Washington Ave church in Yakima since our long visit.  From all that I have heard about the problems between these two groups, corrections need to be made by both before any real progress can be made in reconciliation.  There seems to have been some progress, but they are a long way from any kind of reconciliation.  I was supposed to have a meeting scheduled the last of August with the Eastside church in Yakima, WA, but they still have not made a decision about it.  The church in Sunnyside asked me about holding them a meeting during that time, if Yakima did not schedule one.  I have two Sundays available, so I could schedule a full week at one place and a Sunday through Wednesday at the other and still have time to make my meetings scheduled in Canada.  At this point I am going to tell Sunnyside to schedule the full week if they would like and if Yakima still wants to have a meeting I will do a Sunday through Wednesday for them.

We began our work with the Manitou Park Church of Christ in Tacoma, WA August 5th.  I am doing the Bible study Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.  They meet once on Sundays at 11 am for Bible study and 12 for an extended worship period.  We will be with the church here through the 22nd.  I will be doing a gospel meeting for them August 12-17.  They average about 25 in attendance with some driving over an hour one way to services.  They are in need of a preacher to work with them.  If I understood correctly, they have not had a located preacher working with them since the church started over ten years ago.  They presently meet in a community center that use to be a school building and the Parks and Recreation department wants to sell the building.  So, eventually they will have to find another place to meet.

After we leave here we will go back to Sunnyside for a meeting and possibly one in Yakima.  From there we will be with the church in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, CA for meetings then a meeting in Ranchester, WY before heading toward home and a meeting in Laws Hill, MS the first week in October.

I again express my appreciation for your financial support, but especially your prayers.  I am including a financial statement for support received thus far in 2012 so you can know how much support we have received and where it is from.

Yours in Christ,

Jerry L. Henderson

It has been a while since I posted to this site.   Here is the report I sent for July

Dear Brethren,

Thank you so much for the generous support you provided which helps allow me to work with churches that cannot afford to have a gospel meeting or that may not have a preacher working with them.  I continue to be in need of more regular monthly support or some "one time" help.  A brother called and said he planned to send some “one time” help but I do not know how much.  Whatever the amount, it is definitely needed and will be appreciated.  At present we are having to use some savings we had for emergencies, because of the breakdowns and the cost of repairs earlier in the year those funds are getting close to being depleted.  We had to have some more repairs done to the RV while in Colorado Springs, CO, a new fuel pump which is in the fuel tank and that makes it more expensive to repair ($845).  We have already spent a little over $6000 in unexpected repairs this year.

Our doctor’s appointments in June went well and we enjoyed being with everyone at Rustic Youth Camp especially our children.  We were unable to find a camping spot where we normally stay, so we had to drive from Florence every day.  Our son, Jeff, was able to get a spot so the family was still able to have our family get-together at his campsite.  We stopped at Tanner Street in Malvern, AR where our son, Dan, now preaches and worshiped with them Sunday morning June 17th and Etna, AR Sunday evening where Tommy Thornhill preaches.  I preached for them that evening.  We were in Colorado Springs, CO for Wednesday evening.  The meeting in Green River could not be scheduled like we had planned due to the schedules of some of the members, but I preached for them three times that Sunday June 24.  We were with the church in Blackfoot, ID for Wednesday evening services.  We arrived at the RV Park close to Sunnyside, WA on Friday evening June 29 and I began my work with the church Sunday July 1st.

Tuesday I had a long visit with the preacher at the Washington Ave church in Yakima (only about 25 miles from Sunnyside).  This is a group that split from the Eastside church in Yakima many years ago and there has been hard feelings and charges of sin that has never been resolved.  I had heard the Eastside account when I was with them the past two years and now I have heard the other side.  It is very complicated, but as far as I can tell no doctrinal matters are involved.  It primarily concerned a preacher and culminated in them going to court over the building.  There is now, some desire on the part of both churches to try to work out these problems and be at peace with each other.  I don’t know if I helped or not, but certainly I pray that no harm was done.  The church in Sunnyside, WA is looking for a preacher to come and work with them.  Steven Wallace, who had been there for about 13 years moved to work with a church in Lubbock TX.  This church of about 20-25 members is at peace and they do have some men who can fill the pulpit, but they work long hours on the farm and have little time to prepare lessons.  While I am here, I will be teaching the adult class as well as preaching.

From here we will be going to Tacoma, WA to work with the Manitou Park Church of Christ.  I thought I had a meeting scheduled for the last week in August at the Eastside church in Yakima; however it has yet to be confirmed.  If that does not get scheduled we will stay in Tacoma until time to go to Medicine Hat, Ca for our meeting there.  After it I have meetings in Lethbridge, CA; Ranhester, WY and Laws Hill, MS.

I again express my appreciation for your financial support, but especially your prayers.  I am including a financial statement for support received thus far in 2012 so you can know how much support we received and where it is from.

Yours in Christ,

Jerry L. Henderson

Hello to everyone,

Since I haven’t posted anything for a while, I thought I would just post a copy of the report that I sent to the churches and individuals who are and have provided our support for this year.   By the way, the RV is in the shop again having a leak repaired in the radiator, we expect it to be done in the next day or so.

Dear Brethren,

Thank you so much for the generous support you are providing each month which allows me to work with churches that cannot afford to have a gospel meeting.  I finally did hear from the congregation that I though\t might be able to provide some more needed support for the planned work the rest of this year and they were unable to help.  So, I am still looking for some more regular monthly support or some "one time" help.  At present we are having to use some savings we had for emergencies, because of the breakdown and the cost of repairs earlier in the year and it is getting close to being depleted.  In fact we have had some additional expense related to the original breakdown involving the drive shaft and the RV is in the shop at present for radiator repair.  We have already spent almost $4000 in unexpected repairs.

I began a meeting in Sheridan, WY May 13-16.  All five members were present for every service and we had visitors present on Monday and Tuesday nights.  The daughter and mother of one of the members each visited once service and there was a lady from the liberal church there in Sheridan who visited once.  We also had visitors from the church in Ranchester.  We averaged eight in attendance for each service.  From Sheridan we traveled to Blackfoot, ID and began a full week meeting May 20-25.  We had good attendance the first part of the week but due to some of the members having to be out of town the attendance dropped some toward the end of the week.  We averaged about 24 each service, but we had 33 present for both the Bible study and worship periods Sunday morning.  There were several relatives of some of the members present Sunday.  On Friday evening after the close of service a young man decided he wanted to be baptized, so we all sat back down and witnessed him being immersed into Christ.  This made two responses we have had, one restored in Wellsburg, WV and this baptism in Blackfoot, ID.

From Blackfoot, we headed back toward Florence, AL for doctor’s appointments and for a week working at Rustic Youth Camp in Belgreen, AL.  On the way we stopped by Green River, WY and worshiped with this small church and I preached for them Sunday evening.  I will be back with them in a short meeting the last of June.  During July I will be working with the church in Sunnyside, WA.  Their preacher moved to Texas and they asked me to come and work with them as much as I could.  Our schedule had changed some and I did not have anything specific scheduled during July (some churches I thought I would be working with during this time did not schedule anything and one moved their dates to an earlier date) so I agreed to work with them during that time.  Following our work with Sunnyside we will be in Tacoma, WA.  I will be working with the Manitou Park Church Of Christ the month of August with a full week meeting August 12-17.  From there I am supposed to be scheduled for a week meeting in Yakima, WA, but dates are not finalized and from there into Canada for a couple of weeks then back to Ranchester, WY for a week meeting and then to Laws Hill, MS for a meeting the first week in October and if nothing else develops we will be headed back home in Florence, AL.

I appreciate your financial support, but especially your prayers.  I am including a financial statement for support received thus far in 2012 so you can know how much support we received and where it is from.

Yours in Christ,

Jerry L. Henderson

Hello everyone,

Yes, its been a while since I posted here. I just closed my meeting in Sheridan, WY last night and we are now in Cody, WY on our way to Blackfoot, ID to start a meeting there on Sunday. I preached in Pekin, IL on Wednesday evening April 18 and then began a meeting in Minooka, IL April 22 - 25. I also preached in Plano, IL on Sunday afternoon on the 22nd. The meeting in Minooka was well attended with many visitors. We left Plano and I preached in Princeton, IL where David Beck is working with this very small group. From there we headed to Rapid City, SD and enjoyed spending some time with our grandchildren Brooklyn and Austin (our son, Tim's, family). We attended Bible study with them Wednesday evening. On Friday we left for Ranchester, WY where I preached three times on Sunday and then Wednesday evening. From there we traveled to Sheridan, WY for the meeting there May 13-16. We did not have as many visitors as we had hoped, but one lady came from the liberal church and the sister and mother of one of the men in the congregation as well as some from the church in Ranchester. We had hoped to be able to do some work with a church in Scotts Bluff, NE after the meeting in Sheridan, but were unable to get it scheduled. However, I received a call from Blackfoot, ID asking if I could hold a meeting for them, so I scheduled it following Sheridan. We should be there tomorrow evening. From Blackfoot we will head back toward AL for a couple of weeks and then head back west for work with the church in Green River, WY and then on to Tacoma, WA.

Well, this should do for now, will write more later.

Brotherly,

Jerry L. Henderson
